THE PROTECTIVE STYLE CHALLENGE
Thursday, July 07, 2016
The Protective Style Challenge simply means having your hair in a
protective style for 6 months… from now till December. I don't mean having the
same protective style for 6 months... NO, i mean changing it up once after 6
weeks or more, but making sure your hair is always tucked away in braids,
twists, weaves, wigs, whatever protective style you want from now till December.
The whole point of this challenge is to retain length. Who doesn't like length retention? Everyone wants to see growth and that means retaining length. The idea is that when you have your hair in protective styles you minimize the rate of manipulation caused on your hair. A protective style should be left on for 6 - 8 weeks that is 2 months max.
Always remember, just because your hair is in a protective style
doesn’t mean you should abandon it! Now you're asking yourself what is she
talking about. Keep calm…While your hair is in a protective style you should
moisturize daily to avoid dry scalp, itchiness, and dandruff. If you
already have a protective style on and want to learn how to moisturize your
scalp here’s what you’ll need
Spray bottle
I cup Water
3 pumps of Conditioner
2 tablespoons Coconut Oil
2 tablespoons Castor Oil – Increases hair growth
3 drops Tea Tree Oil
Mix all the above ingredients in a spray bottle, and spritz your
hair every morning or every night, whenever it’s convenient for you. You don’t
have to use this exact ingredients, you can use any oil you have, you can also
replace the conditioner with a leave-in conditioner, whatever you have in your
house at the moment works. The shell life of this moisturizer is two weeks, you
can make a small batch to avoid pouring away after two weeks.
As much as protective styling is good for your hair, it can also
cause damage if you leave it on for too long or if you don't care for your hair
underneath the protective style, this is where moisturizing daily comes in, you
can also wash your hair while in twists or braids. I will be putting up how I
style and take care of this hair as the weeks go by, I plan to leave this on
for 6 weeks or more… I can only hope
Finally, here comes the big question! If you think you can join in
this challenge just comment down below. We will all send in our progress report
at the end of the year to see if we retained length.
Who’s with me???
Till next time... Love your kinks
