Change they say is constant and that's what this color experience is all about. I have colored my hair twice before so this is definitely not my first rodeo.
I won this Shea moisture hair color on Instagram from Shea moisture Nigeria back in October. The deal was to cut and color my hair but I still haven't gathered enough liver. When I say cut I mean literally shave the two sides in form of a tapered cut but I guess all I can do is keep snipping off hair till i eventually get it to that level.

This is a healthy and safe way to color hair because it is free from Ammonia and Sulfates. This hair color system is enriched with the following natural ingredients: Organic Shea Butter, Soy Protein, Flaxseed Oil, Organic Glycerin.

Before application

Everything you need to know on how to apply this is stated on the instruction sheet and it's very straightforward but I will quickly give a rundown of what I did.

Hair after leaving dye on for 30 mins

Directions:

• Detangle hair (I washed and did a henna treatment 48 hours before applying the hair dye to strengthen my hair)
• Section hair into 4 parts
• Prep hair by applying hair cream around hairline.
• Apply hair colour in small sections making sure to coat each section thoroughly.
• Cover hair and allow to sit for 30mins
• Wash with shampoo
• Deep condition with heat
• Rinse and style

And yes drooling is allowed

If you are among the water only squad like me then this post isn’t for you because you do not have any problem.  But you might learn a thing or two so keep reading.

We do a whole lot of mixture in our spray bottle and forget to throw it out after a period of time. Yes that mixture in your spray bottle has a shell life because it contains mostly water.

1. Make small batches at a time:  Making small batches will help you use up the product while it’s still fresh.  Make one that can last you for 4 to 5 days and if it’s still remaining after a week, throw it out.  I know you’re thinking about how much the oils and conditioner inside cost but sister… pour it away.
2. Add essential oils:  there are some essential oils with anti-bacterial properties that can help keep bacteria at bay e.g. tea tree oil, Rosemary oil, lavender oil, just to name a few. Remember, just because you added a few drops of this oil doesn't mean you should use that mixture for eternity. 
3. Use Distilled water or boiled water: because water from the tap can sometimes contain bacteria, distilled water is your best bet.  If you do use tap water, make sure you boil and cool before use.
4. Chill it: This applies to any DIY you make. Sometimes putting the mixture in the fridge helps because cold temperatures keep the mold and bacteria from growing as quickly. This doesn’t mean it won’t grow; it just won’t grow as quickly as it would if left at room temperature.

Please do me a favor and toss that mixture in your spray bottle if you have been doing it wrong this whole time.

A lot of people are obsessed with hair typing that they forget what's important about hair care. I've had people argue with me on what my hair type is and it always makes me wonder if the hair is mine or their's. If we talked about hair porosity as much as we talk about hair types then more people will learn how to properly care for their hair. It’s important to know your hair porosity level to enable you take care of your hair and keep it healthy. Everyone has a unique level of porosity and I’ll be explaining hair porosity in detail.



What is Porosity? 
Porosity is the hairs ability or inability to absorb and retain moisture. Everything you do with your hair increases its porosity e.g. Constant styling especially with heat, frequent combing and Brushing, Excessive washing, and even dry hair can contribute to increasing your hair porosity.

There are three types of porosity, High porosity, Low porosity, Normal/Medium porosity.

High porosity: The cuticles are open and lifted thereby letting in moisture into the hair but also letting it out as fast. This simply means your hair will be moisturized but it will also lose its moisture quickly. High porosity hair lacks shine, lustre, moisture and also lacks protein.

Low porosity: The cuticles are closed thereby not letting anything enter the hair strands. This means Moisture stays in hair and does not dry out fast. In low porosity hair, Products just sit on your hair. Hair is shiny and Looks very healthy but it lacks elasticity. It can be difficult to process. This hair type is protein sensitive as it already has a lot of protein. Focus on products that are rich in moisture e.g.

Products to use

Normal/medium Porosity: This Hair type Absorbs and retains moisture. It looks healthy and it’s also elastic.

How to check your hair porosity level
There are 3 different ways to check your hair porosity. These tests are not 100 percent accurate but it’s a good way to figure out your hair porosity.

Float test: After washing your hair, save a few strands of shed hair. Porosity levels can be different throughout your hair so select shed hair from the front, back and sides. Fill 4 glass cups with room temperature water and Place the strands in glass bowls. Do not push the strands into the water with your fingers.

• If your hair floats down to the middle, it means your hair is medium or normal porosity.
• If your hair sinks to the bottom of the water in less than 1 to 2mins, it means you have high porosity hair, The sooner your hair sinks, the more porous it is
• If your hair sits at the top of the water that means you have low porosity.

Strand test: Gently select a few strands of your hair. Using two fingers, slowly slide your fingers up the hair strand from the tip to your scalp.

• If you feel any resistant or overall uneven texture as you move up the strands, you have high porosity hair. 
• If you don’t feel any resistant at all, that means you have low or normal porosity hair

Dry Test: After washing and conditioning your hair without adding any leave in or moisturizers, with your body soaking wet, step out of the shower and sit around for a while. Do not dry your hair or your body.

• If your hair dries faster than your body, then you have high porosity hair. 
• If your body dries faster than your hair, then you have normal or low porosity hair

So I joined all the natural hair forums I could find, tried almost all the growth formula then after 7 more months, I big chopped (I got tired of transitioning). Fermented Rice Water

•  It is rich in antioxidants, minerals, and traces of pitera; a substance produced during the fermentation process.
• It contains 16% protein, so you might want to avoid doing a protein treatment the day you use rice water.
• Rice water contains Inositol which helps increase hair elasticity and decrease surface friction.This Inositol stays in the hair even after rinsing out the rice water thereby protecting the hair from future damage

•  Wash rice to remove dirt, I washed twice.
•  Boil rice with water
•  Sieve the water
• Pour in a jar and store for 1-2 days to ferment
• Boil rice water again to stop fermentation process
• Dilute rice water with 2 cups water
• Add 5 drops of any essential oil of choice (I used Tea tree oil, Lavender oil and Neem oil)
