JOURNEY TO HAIRVEN

with Oganya Ruby

Well to say the truth I didn't intend on going natural, all I wanted to do was to cut down my relaxer application to two times a year. So I went on YouTube to get tutorials on stretching relaxed hair and dealing with two textures. I've always had full hair, I was just looking for length. 4 months in, I started noticing my coils and the ripples, it felt different in a good way and it wasn't dry. I was loving it and that was when I decided to become a naturalista.😊😊

So I joined all the natural hair forums I could find, tried almost all the growth formula then after 7 more months, I big chopped (I got tired of transitioning). Two years later I'm still here, I've colored my hair, bleached it...I was even scissors happy at a point trimming my hair because I didn't understand the concept of different textures I thought it was heat damage, got my fair share of salon damage (still trying to grow out a patch in the middle of my head). My hair has been through a lot, but I wouldn't change all I've experienced for one second, it's taught me a lot about my hair and I'm in love with my natural hair. 💜💜💜

My regimen is quite simple: less manipulation and stress on my scalp. I co-wash and deep condition my hair every week, wash with shampoo once a month (during which I massage my scalp), I moisturize and seal everyday (Shea butter is my best friend). Then my go to protective styles are two strand twists, twist out, braid out and wash and go, and that's it.

Hope you enjoyed my hair journey and I hope it inspires you. All you have to do is to love your hair in all its states and nurture it through its bad moments. Just a little TLC goes a long way. Have a happy healthy journey...
